BS Breaking News: The Pirate Ship Has Sailed
Mike Leach will put his guns up no more forever
For the first time in history, it’s an exciting time to be in Lubbock, Texas. Rumors are flying that Texas Tech Head Football Coach Mike Leach will no longer hold that position after an extended dispute over his contract could not be resolved with the school.
After going 11-2 last season, winning appearing in the Cotton Bowl and briefly being the number one team in the nation, Leach came close to signing a 5-year extension worth nearly $13-million, but negotiations stalled over details like buyout clauses and whether Texas Tech could fire Leach for interviewing for other jobs. It turns out that, no they can’t because he doesn’t work for them… problem solved.
Athletic Director Gerald Myers set a deadline for 5pm today for these negotiations to be resolved and here we are. Texas Tech fans are already in an uproar over the ousting of the most successful coach in their franchise history. Considering this isn’t a reputable news site, I feel comfortable in linking to less than reputable sources.
We know Mike Leach didn’t sign the proposed contract but no official word has come out of the AD’s office to tell fans whether or not their team is headed back to ineptitude. That seems like a harsh move. These nice folks live in Lubbock. What are they going to do if the Red Raiders aren’t competitive in football or basketball? I have a feeling the murder rate is about to skyrocket and Texas Tech officials are just letting people stew in their own juices. If ever America planned to hand part of Texas back to Mexico, now might be the time.
Don’t expect a press conference from Texas Tech until Friday at the earliest, but do expect the national media to report on this rumor tomorrow. When they do, remember who first blindly jumped on the rumor train and started hollering. Oh, if this turns out to be bull shit, forget this story ever existed.
UPDATE: I guess the powder keg building up in Lubbock was too much for Texas Tech officials to endure because AD Gerald Myers released this statement about the current situation involving Mike Leach. This story has everything, waiting, uncertainty, Lubbock… if someone starts throwing tortillas I’m going to pee my pants!
UPDATED UPDATE: Well it’s official… I need new pants. Lubbockonline.com has a paid advertisement banner on their page from “Disgruntled Texas Tech Alums” urging the school to resolve any disputes with Leach and bring him back as head coach of the football program. Check out a fans indignation here. So now a fans open letter has entered the fray. We’ve got a battle royale brewing ladies and gentleman and I think I hear Mike Leach’s agent’s entry music. Or maybe not but Leach did mention he may just stay on at Tech until his current 2 year contract runs out. Boring… if this whole thing ends up just fizzling out, I’m going to be completely unsuprised. That’s going to be so mundane and expected.

I hate Lubbock Texas, so I sure hope you don’t have to change the name of this site to Bullshit Sports. If he’s really gone this is the worst thing to happen to Lubbock since the day the music died. And the 50th anniversary of that was like a week ago. WOWWIE IT MUST BE TRUE!
