This guy googled basketball, then douchebag- how to be a

He google'd 'basketball', then 'douchebag- how to be a'

We’ve all been there.  The perceived end of the Internet.  After hours, or perhaps minutes, of surfing to familiar sites and researching everything you can think of, you’re left with no curiosity for the wonders that lay just a few keystrokes away.  So you go to Google and put in ‘basketball’.  What’s that?  You’ve never done that?  What kind of idiot would google basketball?  Hmm, that’s a damn good question.

Michael at Basketball.org conducted an interesting study into the fandom of basketball, broken down into regions and states.  But he failed to take into account the fact that only people who don’t understand the Internet would use a search engine to find sites about basketball.  Maybe those people should google ‘Internet’ before they’re allowed to be counted as a statistic.  Or better yet, google ’suicide- how to commit’.

People who actually love the NBA or college hoops or basketball in general love the sport enough to know where to find information on it.  They know that NBA.com isn’t the website for the National Bureau of Artichokes.  In this case, Google needs to be less user-friendly.  When you enter generic search terms like ‘basketball’, it should say ‘Did you mean to send your grandchild $5 for his birthday?’  Or simply give you the links for online colleges.

So Kentucky ended up being the state that searched most often, per-capita- for ‘basketball’ on Google.  That is a basketball crazy state, but it’s just a coincidence.  If you conducted the same study for the state that google’d ‘rocket science’ I’m betting Kentucky would also finish first.  Why?  Because they apparently lead the nation in Internet Illiterate hillbillies.  I’m not trying to insult you, Kentucky, but these claims are backed by scientific studies.  Personally, I would have guessed Florida with all their geriatrics would’ve come out on top, but I’m guessing too many of those folks are still trying to figure out where to put the beans in their Dell coffee maker.
