NFL To Europe Twice?
Because things are going so swimmingly over here in America, the NFL is considering exporting some much-needed city revenue and entertainment to another country. Seems only logical. Just ask NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell.
“The fan reaction we’ve had in London has been extraordinary. We would like to feed that passion. We have a great fan base in the UK. There have been discussions of taking the second game and playing it in another market in the UK…
Yeah, I agree. I think the first priority in America should be what makes the English happy. I’m sure this has nothing to do with the sweet deal the NFL is cutting to do this. But don’t you worry American fans. You haven’t been completely forgotten.
“The negative is taking the home game away from the fans,” Goodell said. “It’s another reason why potentially restructuring the season and changing two preseason [games] into regular-season can be something that we find is beneficial to the fans.”
Oooh, I get it. So, essentially what he’s saying here is, “I’ve already decided to move a second game to England, deal with it. Also, if you American guys bitch enough we’ll just screw the players over with 2 extra games. They complain so much as it is we won’t even notice the added gripe.”
It isn’t like injuries aren’t already a huge factor in a 16-game season. If his argument stems from the fact that they’d just do away with preseason games then he obviously doesn’t watch those games, because the starters are out within 10 minutes, if they even suit up. Also, notice how there’s been no mention of compensating the players for two extra games.
Sure they make a lot of money as it is, but not nearly as much as the owners do, and nobody should be asked to work for free. Unless you’re the CEO of a car company or bank. Or a blogger.
