NBA Players and Weed Continue Love Affair
You wouldn't have recognized a picture of Corie
Corie Blount played in the NBA for 11-years before retiring in 2004. Most people don’t remember even one of his games. I imagine his most memorable quality is people debating whether his last name is pronounced ‘BLUNT’ or ‘BLOWNT’ with a hard OW. That probably won’t change, even now as he’s being incarcerated on marijuana charges.
Blount was arrested in December when a package containing 11-pounds of marijuana was sent to him at a relative’s home. Authorities discovered that package and an additional 18-pounds of the drug when searching the former basketball player’s home.
Possession of that much pot carries a felony charge and trafficking charges, which were dropped. Blount had a valid excuse though. He and his friends planned to smoke it themselves, not distribute it. The judge presiding over his case disagreed saying, “Cheech and Chong would have had a hard time smoking that much.” That may be true, but those guys have to be about 70 by now. I will say, the world could use more smart-talking judges. Dispense justice through insults and quips as well as traditional sentencing. At the least, it would make stories about court cases more interesting.
Blount avoided the maximum 10 year prison sentence, but will still be locked up for a year. It’s a good thing he’s so big, he might just avoid being passed around like a Blount.
Honestly, that line was about the only thing I had to say about this story, thanks for hanging in there.
