Alabama Is In Fact In Big Trouble

I know it’s asking a lot of you to remember something that happened way back in March, especially when it is just slightly basketball related and there’s nary a boob in sight.  That’s why we’re here.  It really isn’t, but just this once we’ll be kind of helpful. 

Alabama’s athletic department imploded today with the news that their football team will have to forfeit wins and the NCAA will put a total of 16 of their teams on three years probation.  I don’t think any buildings actually imploded though, that probably would’ve been in the news too. 

The Tide has been waiting for the hammer to fall since March, when they admitted to potential major violations, which occurred by allowing student-athletes to use their scholarships to pay for books for classes they were not enrolled in.  The books are described as “impermissible benefits” and were obtained for other students.  It wasn’t expressly stated that the textbooks were sold to other students, so for now let’s assume every Alabama athlete is a good Samaritan.  Stop laughing. 

It appears for now that the football team will be the only program forced to vacate wins because seven of their players are described as “intentional wrongdoers”.  If that phrase didn’t appear on your first grade report card, you’ve bested me.  As for Bama, they will have to forfeit any game one of the Magnificent Bastard Seven participated in from 2005-2007. 

The NCAA also found the university guilty of “failure to monitor” for allowing these numerous incidents to occur.  Alabama now has to pay a $43,900 fine and has no textbook sales to fall back on to raise the cash.  Bikini car wash anyone?  Yup, bikini car wash.
