Some People Can’t Take A Hitler Comment

Some people these days are too damn sensitive.  All it takes is one little, innocent comment about how effective Adolf Hitler’s leadership ability was and everyone freaks out.  Just ask Formula One head Bernie Ecclestone, who was quoted by The Times of London as saying “[Hitler] was in the way that he could command a lot of people, able to get things done.”  Prior to that quote, Ecclestone said something like ‘There’s going to be a shit-storm for what I’m about to say, but f*ck it, Formula One needs some attention.’  I’d say he played his hand pretty well. 

Obviously, the problem that most people have with his comments is that they didn’t understand what they meant.  I get that all the time.  Honestly, you can’t even mention Hitler anymore without people thinking you’re some kind of insane asshole. 

Ecclestone explained “I did not put Hitler forward as a positive example, but simply noted that, before his appalling crimes, he acted successfully against unemployment and the economic crisis.” 

Well there you go, don’t you feel stupid now?  Of course he was talking about Hitler’s brilliance as an economist.  If I’m not mistaken, that’s what he’s best remembered for today.  That and his trend-setting mustache.  I can’t even think what else he would be remembered for…(opens history book)  Ohhhhhhhhhhh…oh God!

It’s OK though because Ecclestone says that he never meant to offend anyone, in fact “many of my closest friends are Jews.”  When asked to name them, he likely stammered ‘oh, well, uh, there’s Morty and Ira and uh, Gold-err-Silver-uh-berg-stein.  I’m bad with names, but I spend a lot of time at banks and delis.’

We can all learn a valuable lesson here.  The next time you stick your foot in your mouth, you don’t need to apologize.  Just claim that everyone but you didn’t understand what you were talking about, probably because you’re so much smarter than they are.  Then, tell the people who are most offended that they couldn’t be offended because you are friends with people just like them.  That ought to shut them up, allowing you to spew more racially insensitive propaganda.  Sunrise, sunset.
