Vince Young is Mistaken…Racist?

What do you mean now isnt the time for We Are the Champions?

What do you mean now isn't the time for 'We Are the Champions?'

Titans backup QB Vince Young might be the best second string signal caller in the NFL.  Maybe.  It’s not even a definite.  He’s competing with the likes of Todd Collins, Brady Quinn or Derrick Anderson, Jeff Garcia and a handful of rookies.  All of those benchwarmers have something in common, they aren’t likely to win a Super Bowl anytime soon.  But Young would like you to know that he “will be the next black quarterback to win a Super Bowl.”  And with that, Donovan McNabb officially defriended Vince on Facebook.

Considering Young isn’t even the starting QB in Tennessee and he nearly washed out of football last season, it seems like what he’s really saying is that no black quarterback will win the Super Bowl for at least the next 5 years.  Is that really that much worse than anything Rush Limbaugh has said?  If Peyton Manning came out and said ‘I guarantee no black QB will win the Super Bowl this decade’, would he not lose many of his millions of endorsements?  I don’t mean millions of dollars in endorsements, I mean actually millions of his billions of endorsement deals.  This hyperbole brought to by Peyton Manning for Bootlegger Sports.

To be honest, if, say, Chris Collinsworth said ‘Vince Young will be the next black QB to win a Super Bowl’, I think he could be charged with a hate crime.  That’s like saying ‘the next black president will be Obama’s great-great Grandson.’  That’s all well and good for that guy, but it’s quite a rip on every other black American for the next couple generations.  Plus, Obama’s great-great Grandson may actually be a great politician whereas Vince Young, well, he might be better as a politician than he is as a pro QB.  He certainly couldn’t be worse.  I think the pollsters could really rally behind a shirtless, Tequila-swilling candidate who can ‘make it rain’.

By the way, Young also said “I will be in the Hall of Fame.”  To his credit, he didn’t say which Hall of Fame.  He’s assured a spot in the College Football Hall, right?  At this point, though, I’d say his chances of making the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame are better than his chances of making it to Canton.  But that statement makes his claim of being the next black, Super Bowl winning QB even worse by comparison.  I mean, Vince Young said definitively that he would be enshrined in the Hall of Fame and I didn’t even mention it until the last half of a story about him saying crazy things.  Maybe he’s shooting for the Starbury Hall of Fame for insane commentary.  Someone please ask him if ‘they can put him in a box?’

Wait a minute.  Is it possible that Vince is grasping at technicalities?  I mean, he never said he would be the next black starting QB to win a Super Bowl.  Is it possible that he just meant that Kerry Collins would carry the Titans to the ’ship this year and he’d be along for the ride?  And he also never actually said he’d be elected to the Hall of Fame.  Maybe he just vowed to visit Canton one day.  Well, Vince, I may or may not owe you an apology.  For now, I’m just going to assume that you’re a delusional, self-hating black backup QB.
