Mike Shanahan Not Interested In Destroying Legacy

'Who let Mike see Washington's roster?'
The Washington Redskins have been incredibly terrible for most of this season and the fact that they’ve won two games is a slap in the face to the NFL and an insult to last season’s Detroit Lions. No team this bad should win two games in a season, much less in their first six games. No wonder the league and the media have been hyping up Drew Brees and Peyton Manning so much this season; they’re hoping you lose sight of the fact that there’s at least a handful of historically terrible teams as their opposition. As for the Lions, well, let’s just say they never would have lost 16 games last year if they’d played the same teams Washington has bumbled against. The Skins have wins against the Rams, who could run the table in reverse, and the Bucs, who might be relegated to the UFL. You hear all the time people saying, ‘USC could beat that NFL team.’ But, let’s not get carried away here. USC is a little down this year. I mean, yes, they could still beat most of the teams on the Redskins schedule, but in fairness, so could an average college team. Honestly, if I gave you 3.5 points and Notre Dame at home against the Rams, you’d have to at least consider betting your life’s savings, right?
I only am considering these things because Washington is in full coach firing mode this week, except without actually firing current head coach Jim Zorn. After he had his playcalling duties stripped away yesterday, Zorn heard the rumors today that former Broncos boss Mike Shanahan was offered his job but turned it down. Shanahan didn’t turn it down because he respects Zorn too much to take his position before he’s even vacated it. He turned it down because who in their right mind would coach the Redskins right now? That’s like career suicide. And this is from a guy who coached for Al Davis for 20 games. That must make you feel confident, eh Zorn? The only shred of job security you have left is because you’ve made your position so undesirable to other people they’re refusing to replace you. Now get out there and beat the Eagles.

You know, Jim Zorn didn’t write Haynesworth’s paycheck. He also didn’t bet on Jason Campbell’s sorry INT throwing self. Dan Snyder is making horrible business decisions because he doesn’t understand this business of Football. Unfortunately, you can’t fire the owner. But, he can hire a coach that most people realize won’t work out and fire him. Don’t blame Zorn for being Zorn. Blame the guy who hired him.
