Steve Phillips Can’t Keep It In His Pants UPDATE
Former Mets GM and current ESPN baseball analyst, Steve Phillips, has always come off, to me, as a bit of an arrogant douche. If you know so much about baseball and about what moves every team should make to improve, why did the Mets can your ass, Steve? Oh, that seems to be the only question you don’t have an answer for. You overpaid Mo Vaughn, Robby Alomar, Jeremy Burnitz and Bobby Bonilla, traded Jason Bay and wanted to trade Jose Reyes. But, you did draft Lastings Milledge, so I’ll give you some credit. Oh, also the dude’s got a swinging dick, so there’s that. Yeah, just think about that. Steve Phillips’ swinging dick…you may be resisting the urge to picture that image in your head right now, but it’s in there now and it’s going to pop up eventually. You’ll be at dinner with your girlfriends parents later and BAM…Steve Phillips in all his glory. Enjoy. What were we talking about again?
Oh yeah, Phillips apparently had an affair with an assistant at ESPN and his wife is suing him for divorce. I guess she was OK with him cheating on her while he was with the Mets (he was also sued for sexual harassment) but that kind of crap doesn’t fly if you aren’t in the big leagues making the real cash. By the way, the girl he slept with at ESPN turned out to be crazy. Not quite Steve McNair’s mistress level crazy, but she definitely had that potential. Imagine that. If only there had been some sign that the 22-year-old who was willing to sex-up 46-year-old Steve Phillips might not be right in the head. You would have thought an expert GM like Phillips who prides himself on being able to evaluate talent would have been able to see that coming. His mind must have been clouded, but by what we may never know.
When I say the ESPN production assistant was crazy, I mean that she made threatening and harrassing calls to Phillips’ wife after Steve ended their relationship. Phillips later told the police “I have extreme concerns about the health and safety of my kids and myself.” It has also been reported that Crazy McSluterson sent Phillips’ wife a letter describing their relationship in graphic detail. And so, as you leave this Web site your mission, nay your duty, is clear. Find that letter and send it to your old friends at Bootlegger Sports.
Ed. Note: In ‘researching’ for this story, I also found out that Phillips and Bobby Valentine aren’t the best of friends. They had trouble working together in New York and Phillips eventually fired Bobby V. I only bring this up because Valentine was recently brought in by ESPN to work the post-season with the possibility of staying on in an expanded role next year. Also, Phillips still works at ESPN, for now. I hope we get the see both of them on set at the same time, trading backhanded compliments and barbs while Peter Gammons sits between them trying to stay professional.
UPDATE: Woof…these appear to be pictures of the woman, Brooke Hundley, Phillips had an affair with in Bristol. I’ll let you go to town in the comments section if you see fit. I’ll just say that Phillips must be an alcoholic. FYI, there’s also a picture of Brooke Burke down there because Google Images knows I don’t like ugos.
