Coach’s Freestyle Rap= Embarrassing Loss
The Syracuse basketball program has enjoyed a proud tradition, which includes conference championships, a national championship, a hall of fame coach and multiple All-Americans. Lacking from all of that was a freestyle rap that was recorded by an assistant coach. Lacking, that is, until now. Because, apparently, the answer to the question, ‘what do you get the basketball program that has everything?’ isn’t ‘another NCAA title’ but rather ‘a shameful amateur rap’. Well, at least I know the proper gift for my rich uncle.
Syracuse assistant Rob Murphy says he put down the rap while hanging out in a recording studio with some friends. Syracuse fans say Murphy should spend more time coaching players to avoid embarrassing losses to Division 2 schools. That’s just a general feeling I get from Orange fans, not referring to anything specific like an 82-79 loss to Le Moyne College Tuesday night.
Seriously though, when are these universities going to learn the importance of the pre-game music? I’m not necessarily saying that a bad pre-game song will ruin an entire season, but it will almost definitely cause at least one disturbing upset in front of the home fans. I seem to remember something about prairie wind touching skin from this football season, which was quickly followed by a Cougar foot kicking ass.
At least that song took two games to punish the team. The Syracuse rap plagued the Orange the first time they took the floor.
By the way, Le Moyne College is the Dolphins. They are located in Syracuse, New York. Dolphins…Upstate New York…confused. I mean, I don’t know of any marine life indigenous to the area. But on the other hand, if a dolphin were able to survive in New York, it would probably be the most bad ass dolphin the world has ever seen. So throw a gold chain on your mascot, Le Moyne, and keep representing.
As for Syracuse, I know you built a whole campaign around this rap, but it’s clearly time to heed the songs advice and ’shut it down’.
