Eastern Kentucky Struggles Mightily

The douches call it like it is
In what many were calling the college baseball game of the year, if not the decade, Eastern Kentucky narrowly defeated Division 2 rival Kentucky State 49-1 Wednesday. Though they came away with the win, Eastern Kentucky’s players, coaches and fans have to be extremely disappointed.
EKU started hot by touching up Kentucky State pitching for 22 first inning runs. But failed to recapture that magic as they mustered only 27 more with their final 12 outs. There’s only one way to describe such a terrible drop in production, a severe loss of focus.
That hint of immaturity could also explain the team’s defense. Described as solid but not stellar, the Colonel’s nearly squandered their lead by allowing a big KSU rally, which netted them their only run.
When asked his opinion of his team’s performance, EKU coach Jason Stein said “Our kids were very classy.” That’s all. Not anything about the way they competed or their killer instinct. No mention of their on-field skills at all. Most likely because he was too angry to discuss the game with the media without completely losing it.
The Colonel’s banged out 38 hits but experienced a serious power outage, ending the game with 5 homers. That’s an embarrassing ratio. Jaysen Langfels accounted for two of those bombs and ended the game 7-8 with 11 RBIs. Scouts leaving the contest could be overheard questioning the slugger’s ability.
‘7-8 with 2 HRs and 11 RBIs is not 8-8 with 3 HRs and 14 RBIs.’
How true.
The teams were scheduled to play a double header, but the second game was cancelled. I presume because Eastern Kentucky’s coaching staff wouldn’t allow themselves to put an inferior product back on the field. They probably took the unexpected free time to get some extra batting practice in. Fans are hopeful that it will help the Colonel’s down the road.
